4 Cocktails to Try Before the End of Summer

This summer has been the 5th hottest on record here in Tennessee, and as everyone knows, there’s no better way to beat the heat than with a cold, refreshing drink. And thanks to Tennessee’s long summers, there’s even more time to enjoy some great summer cocktails, splashed with a couple of our favorite ingredients — moonshine and whiskey! So, while it may already be September, let’s celebrate and raise our glasses to the final heat-filled days of the year — and enjoy every last bit of summer — with four of our favorite whiskey and moonshine cocktail recipes:

1. Strawberry Mojito

Try a refreshing new take on the classic mojito featuring our Renegade Rum. Mix this one at your next party, and you’ll be the classiest renegade there!

Ingredients:
2 oz. Renegade Rum
2 Medium Fresh Strawberries
2-3 Sprigs of Mint
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
2 oz. Club Soda
Muddle fresh strawberry and mint with Renegade Rum. Add simple syrup and club soda. Shake well and strain over ice. Garnish with strawberry, lime, and mint sprig.
2. Watermelon Margarita

This watermelon margarita, made with our award-winning Watermelon Falls Moonshine, is perfect for a picnic, backyard barbeque, or any summer gathering.

Ingredients:
3 oz. Watermelon Falls Moonshine
2 oz. Lime Juice
1 oz. Simple Syrup (superfine sugar mixed in water)
1/2 tsp. Orange Liqueur
1 tbsp. Margarita Salt
Shake Watermelon Falls Moonshine, lime juice, simple syrup, and orange liqueur with ice in cocktail shaker for 30 seconds. Press rim of glass into margarita salt, then strain margarita into the glass. Garnish with lime. Optional: Blend ingredients with cubed, seeded watermelon for an increased watermelon flavor.
3. Whiskey Sour

Refined. Elegant. Stately. There’s really no better summertime drink than a classic whiskey sour, and there’s no better whiskey than a Tennessee whiskey. Here’s our take on this quintessential drink:

Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Corn Whiskey
1 oz. Lemon Juice
1 oz. Sugar
2 oz. Water
Mix lemon juice, sugar, and water to create a sour mix. Combine Corn Whiskey, sour mix, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds, pour into glass, and garnish with a lemon.
4. Little River Sweet Tea

We all love sweet tea — whether you’re Southern or not — and we East Tennesseans all have a special place in our hearts for our local Little River. To marry the set, just add some honey, fruit, and our Little River Lemon Moonshine (we promise river water is not an ingredient!). Do that, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a perfect Tennessee summer night.

Ingredients:
2 oz. Little River Lemon Moonshine
6 oz. Sweet Tea
1 dash Honey
Stir Little River Lemon Moonshine into a glass of sweet tea. Add a dash of honey for sweetness. Garnish with an apple slice and blackberries. Sit back and relax.

Summer’s Not Over, Yet!
We’re in denial about the end of summer — so we’re going to make sure it lasts as long as possible by soaking in the beautiful weekends, warm summer nights, joyous tailgating, and great gatherings. If you’d like to make some of these summer cocktails for your next summer fiesta, be sure to visit us at our distillery in Kodak, TN, where you’re welcome to enjoy free tastings of our rum, whiskey, rye, Dumplin Creek Flavored Moonshine, and other spirits!
